A picture of Me
As a child growing up in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, I spent many afternoons and weekends with my mother who was the owner and Principal of the Moresby Ballet School. Our family life centred around dance including ballet, jazz and tap with classes, concerts, examinations and annual pantomimes etc. When the time was right, I too became a teacher at the school, and continued for many years.
After the birth of my first child, a son, I faced the challenge of restoring my pre-pregnancy body shape and went to an aerobics class. Although I enjoyed the workout, I needed more emphasis on 'dance' so then began running classes which were a combination of aerobics and various dance styles I had been accustomed to. My former body shape was back in no time.
These classes became extremely popular and I continued through my next pregnancy, teaching up until two weeks prior to the birth of my daughter. The fact that my body was in an extreme condition of wellness and fitness, the birth and recovery this time around was extremely quick and easy.
Moving to Sydney, Australia over twenty years ago, I opened a Jazzercise fitness franchise which continued my love of the combination of fitness and dance. Leading others to achieve health and fitness success through both movement and nutrition is such a positive experience, and a challenge I continue to love today.
Unfortunately an accident five years ago resulted in my spine being fractured in several places which subsequently required spinal fusion surgery. Now with parts of my spine fused, and titanium screws holding everything in place, I am unable to be physically involved with any challenging movement or exercise.
However, I have discovered that I have so much to live for and so much to experience in my life ahead of me so I continue my fitness regime with low impact exercises such as walking, pilates, and the use of such tools as weights, a fitball, pilates apparatus and bands etc.
My physical handicap does not mean that I have given up the desire for optimum physical fitness and wellness. Nor does it mean I can't achieve it.
