Beauty Cosmetics to Enhance Women 40 yrs Plus

Ohhh. Cosmetics. I just love them!

As our skin ages, we must adjust the way we apply our cosmetics, the type of cosmetics and also make changes in the colours we use.

We may have to discard some of those we favoured in our 30's, or mix the hues to form new shades.

Imagine a canvas being prepared by Monet to create a beautiful painting. Well, that is what our skin is. A canvas that has been prepared with cleansing and moisturising, and is now ready to be a creation of art.

With make-up. And the most efficient tools to create the art! Well chosen and carefully applied make-up will take years off your looks and your self confidence will sky rocket.

As we enter our 40's, our skin becomes paler and we need to add colour such as blushers and lipstick to look healthier. Our skin also loses much of it's definition and foundations, eyebrow and lipliners will define our features, and added mascara will plump and thicken up the sparsening eyelashes.

The correct use of make up will not only enhance our features but it is also great for disguising our less appealing points, such as using a concealer to hide dark circles beneath the eyes, lip liners to make the lips more full and uneven skin tone can be covered with a suitable foundation.

Tips for caring for your cosmetics:

• Store them away from heat and light. Many professionals in the make up industry store theirs in the fridge
• Use a spatula, cotton tip or the squeeze tip of the bottle to avoid contaminating the product with your fingers
• Make sure you wash your spatulas each week with warm soapy water to maintain cleanliness
• Should your product be in a wide neck jar, screw the lid on tightly each time to ensure the seal
• If your make up brushes are loose, stand them upright in a jar to air the bristles. Wash with shampoo and light conditioner every couple of weeks
• Always wash your hands before putting on skin care and cosmetics

Check that your make up isn't past it's use by date. Would you eat a tub of yoghurt if the date was already history? Unfortunately most cosmetics do not have dates on them so my guess is to go by common sense. If you note any change in the colour or consistency, then throw it away. If you haven't used it for six months, throw it away. An estimate has found that 50% of eye infections in women are caused by make up that is old.

The rule of thumb with most cosmetics are:

• Foundations are usually designed to last from 12 to 24 months however if not stored correctly, the oils may separate
• Blushers in a compact usually last forever however cream blushers need to be discarded after about a year
• Eye shadows in a compact again should last a number of years however with any eye product, if you suffer from eye infections always replace your products
• Mascaras are not made to last any more than six months as they dry out and form clumps on your lashes. Again discard if eye infections have developed
• Eye Liners again last for about six months and should not be reused after suffering any eye infections
• Nail varnishes do not keep for long, depending on storage and exposure to head and light. As soon as they go lumpy, throw them away and start fresh
• Perfumes usually last for a year or so if they are stored in the dark and cooler climate. Your nose will be the first indication if they need replacing
• Skin care products such as moisturisers and eye cream will last you about six months after opening. Keep an eye on the colour and consistency and if it begins to change, toss it
• Sunscreens must be replaced each year. The ingredients will lose their strength when stored and you will be at risk of burning when you use out of date product
