Make Up brushes and applicators - Crucial Tools for Applying Cosmetics

On my vanity is the best tool kit for applying cosmetics. A pouch of make up brushes and applicators by Napoleon Perdis. These brushes enable me to apply my make-up with ease and a lot more speed, and also gives me greater control over the application of the products. To achieve great results when applying make up, it is crucial to use the right tools.

I must confess I had always been lazy when applying my make-up, and was content to use the piddly foam pads that come pre-packaged with eyeshadows, or the tiny brush with the blusher. However, my mindset was converted immediately when my daughter, who is a trained beauty therapist, completed a course with the Napoleon Perdis Academy. Seeing the dramatic effects in the way the make-up was applied on her clients, made me realise the importance of using the correct tools.

A basic cosmetic brush kit may not contain the full range, however the brushes that I find useful are:

  • foundation - These allow the foundation to spread evenly and the tapered edges get into creases and smaller areas
  • concealer brush - this small brush dabs the concealer and blends it with your foundation
  • blush or bronzer - spreads the product evenly on the cheeks without sharp edges
  • several brushes for eye shadows - these have soft tapered bristles to sweep colour evenly over the eyelids
  • foam applicator - allows a stronger application and more direct placement of eye shadow
  • smudge brush - the short rounded bristles enable control of the deeper shades of eyeshadow and prevents smudging
  • loose powder brush - flicks away loose powder to stop it forming in creases
  • lash/brow comb - combs the lashes and smoothes the brows
  • lip brush - paints perfect shape to the lips and ensures the colour lasts longer
  • Another MUST have in the cosmetic tools department is a good pair of tweezers. Often we find a stray hair or two on our eyebrows in between waxing, or as women 40 yrs plus, to our horror we find a disastrous growth appearing from our chin or lipline. Does that happen to you? If not, you are one of the fortunate ones.

To finish off the eyelashes with incredible curl, you may also wish to have a lash curler. Unfortunately my eyelashes are not long enough to use one of these comfortably, however it is something that I will try again soon.

It is always handy to have a stock of cotton buds, cotton balls and tissues to reach for when applying make up. You may have a little slip to correct or deeper colours to blot. These are usually staple items in a woman's bathroom, so I am sure they will not provide a problem for you.

As for the brushes, the Napoleon Perdis roll will set you back between $350 and $400 however there are so many brands available such as Manicare, ModelCo and then Estee Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Lancombe, MAC and Laura Mercier among them.

Check them out and then choose make up brushes that will fit your budget and your make up ideals.

Take care of your make up brushes and they will be a worthwhile investment, lasting you years and years. Wash them in soapy water once a month and let them dry naturally.

Voila!! Pretty, seductive, alluring, business-like - you can create whatever look you desire with these wonderful make up brushes and tools of a make up artist.
