Self Esteem for Women 40 yrs Plus
Self esteem is the power to unconditionally love ourselves, a deep belief and respect for ourself, and the appreciation that encompasses our emotional, physical and spiritual being.
It affects the way we look and behave, as do our feelings of growing older. Compare the negative posture energies portrayed by a woman with low self esteem to the posture of someone who values herself highly.
Improving our self esteem can provoke a new found confidence and strength and a new appreciation of ourselves. It is also empowering to know that we can feel younger as we get older.
“People with high self esteem have it because they have overcome their failures. They have been put to the test of life, overcome the problems and grown.”
David Janson, Really Relating
Self Acceptance and Self Awareness - Self acceptance and self awareness are vital for healthy self esteem or we would be forever trying to reach an external ideal.
- As we age we become more self accepting and don’t compare ourselves to others as we used to.
- We must be genuinely happy with who we are, regardless of what others think we are. It is counter productive to try to achieve perfection, however it is more empowering to accept ourselves as an imperfect human being.
- We must love ourselves despite any imperfections we may have – accept who we are, as we are for what we are.
- Escape the ‘hidden self” who hides behind a mask and acts like someone else in the company of others, for fear of rejection or dislike of the ‘real’ you.
- Let go of the expectations of what you think you should be or what you think others think you should be.
- Recognize that we can’t change ourselves because someone else wants us to.
- Move away from always trying to please others, instead move towards being true to yourself. Give graciously without expectation.
- Focus on the positive. A positive approach may open the doors to the fulfillment of our dreams.
