Wake Up and Smell The Roses

Now is the time to....Wake Up and Smell The Roses.

smell-the-rosesIt is a fact that many of us tend to have unfortunate events or negative experiences in our life that have affected us in an unconstructive manner by either upsetting, hurting, depressing or angering us and we choose to hold on to these experiences and simply can’t or wont let go.

Sometimes these things continue to escalate and grow and it becomes harder to eradicate them from our thoughts. This growth of negativity can in fact be harmful to our health, not only mentally but physically as well.

Have you heard the saying ‘Just get over it. Or, “Just let it go!” I have, and I must say that hearing these things didn’t help me at all.

As Featured On Ezine ArticlesThere was a time in my life a number of years ago when it felt that everything in my life was crumbling around me, I didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning, I avoided any social activities with my friends, my self esteem had plummeted and I just wanted to crawl into a dark cave and never come out. The tears always fell, the darkness always clouded me, but I somehow managed to make it through each day, and eventually found the light at the end of the tunnel.

I managed to wake up and smell the roses.

How do we accomplish that? To appreciate what we have, focus on the good things and actually emerge from the cave and wake up and smell the roses?

When we have experienced one or some of life’s negative events which cause the unpleasantness, we tend to grasp these thoughts and carry them around with us. They are constantly on our mind, difficult to ignore and eventually consume our thoughts and lives. All the memories of pleasant experiences are swallowed up and only the negative ones are on the surface. We seem to forget the good things in life, and mostly to hang on to the bad.

Eventually, the weight of the bad experiences becomes heavier, and the heavier it gets, the more difficult it is to lighten the burden that hangs over us. Our thoughts are so bloated with the negative experiences that there is no room left for any pleasantness and we seem unable to move forward in life.

This is disastrous as our entire well being is affected. In order to allow ourselves to wake up and smell the roses, we need to ask ourselves several questions.

The negativity and unpleasantness that we feel – what purpose is it serving? Is this feeling helping us live our lives to the full? Are we benefiting at all by holding on to them? Are we growing? Are we happy? You will have only one obvious answer.

NO!

Therefore, we only have one option. Wake up and smell the roses!

Focus on what is important in your life. It could be your relationship with your partner. It could be your children. It might be your career. It might be something that you previously thought of as trivial. Focus on something positive and negate the emotion that has been holding you back. We simply don’t need this negative energy repressing our lives.

smell-the-rosesSet a new goal. Imagine any new possibility that could really improve your life. This goal should be challenging, but attainable, so don’t imagine something huge. Perhaps it could be saving for a new outfit, taking a course to learn something you have always wanted to do, planting a vegetable garden, losing some weight or starting a new job. The idea is to simply move your focus on what you want next in life. Put the past behind you and move forward. Channel your focus in a new direction, and be positive. Remember that positive thoughts will create positive energy and that is what is required to allow us to wake up, let go and smell the roses.

Once your positive goal is decided upon, construct your action plan. This plan will aid you in reaching that goal. Again, positive energy is channeled forward and overrides the negative energy of the past. Ensure that your action plan is made up of smaller steps to allow you to climb to the top, perhaps rewarding yourself at intervals along the way.

The path to allow you to wake up and smell the roses is to channel your focus on the future, set a goal that you aspire to, devise an action plan to reach that goal and to focus on the positive aspects of your life.

Train your mind to ‘let go’ of all those damaging negative energies and prosper with the positive.

Wake up, open your eyes, look around you and see what you have at this present moment.

Think of the positives of NOW. TODAY.

Put yesterday behind you, take a breath, smile, and think purely of tomorrow.

It is time to…..
Wake up and smell the roses.
